Product overview

The ART CleanBox Pro is a two channel balanced / unbalanced level convertor: a convenient solution for connecting consumer A/V and professional audio equipment.

It provides two channels of unbalanced to balanced level conversion and two channels of balanced to unbalanced level conversion in a rugged, compact and portable extruded aluminium case. The balanced signals use XLR connectors, the unbalanced signals use stereo RCA and 1/8 inch TRS jacks, and independent volume controls set the balanced and unbalanced output levels. Balanced lines offer increased immunity to external electrical noise and hum, and are the preferred method of connecting audio gear, especially over long cable runs. Need to get the analogue output from a laptop, phone or disc player to a mixer or PA system, or the other way round? The CleanBox Pro does it. Note that it is a level convertor, not a transformer isolator.

Channels: unbalanced to balanced and back 2 + 2
Balanced XLR inputs and outputs +4 dBu
Unbalanced RCA and 1/8 inch -10 dBV
Signal to noise ratio > 90 dB

Unbalanced to balanced

One section converts two channels of consumer level unbalanced signals into two channels of professional line level balanced signals. Its -10 dBV inputs are two RCA jacks and a stereo 1/8 inch mini-phone jack connected in parallel; the +4 dBu balanced outputs are two male XLR jacks, set by the Balanced Stereo Output Level control (up to +21 dB of gain).

Balanced to unbalanced

The other section converts two channels of line level balanced signals into two channels of consumer unbalanced signals. It has two female XLR inputs (+4 dBu); the -10 dBV outputs are two RCA jacks and a stereo 1/8 inch mini-phone jack connected in parallel, set by the Unbalanced Stereo Output Level control.

Applications

ART names home and professional recording studios, live sound, PA, permanent installations, DJ, AV, consumer hi-fi, podcasting and broadcasting, with mixers, audio processors, laptop computers, computer sound cards, CD / DVD players, gaming machines, MP3 players / recorders, powered monitors and digital audio workstations. Looping one section's outputs back to its inputs also gives an inline level / gain control.

ART CleanBox Pro: frequently asked questions

What does the CleanBox Pro convert?

Two channels of -10 dBV unbalanced (RCA or 1/8 inch) to +4 dBu balanced XLR, and two channels of +4 dBu balanced XLR to -10 dBV unbalanced.

Is it a ground loop isolator?

No. The CleanBox Pro is a level convertor, not a transformer isolator.

How is it powered?

By the included power adaptor: 7.5-12 V AC/DC, less than 150 mA.

Can both sections be used at the same time?

Yes. The two sections are independent, each with its own stereo output level control.
