Product overview

The ART DTI Dual Transformer / Isolator uses a pair of high-performance transformers to reduce hum and ground loop noise, separating the input and output signal grounds for total isolation between two systems.

The transformers are wound for 1:1 unity gain, are designed for impedances from 600 Ω to 100 kΩ and have an extremely flat and wide frequency response; even at high signal levels they give clean, transparent sound. With XLR, 1/4 inch TRS and RCA connectors on all inputs and outputs, the DTI is flexible and easy to integrate as a clean patch point in virtually any audio system. A rugged aluminium enclosure and a passive design that needs no external power make it built for years of reliable use.

Key features

  • 2 x XLR inputs and outputs
  • 2 x 1/4 inch TRS inputs and outputs, balanced or unbalanced
  • 2 x RCA inputs and outputs
  • 10 Hz - 50 kHz frequency response
  • 0.01 % THD (typical at 1 kHz, +18 dBu)
  • Passive design: no power required

Inputs on the front, outputs on the rear

The front panel carries inputs 1 and 2 on XLR (female), 1/4 inch TRS and RCA; the rear panel carries outputs 1 and 2 on RCA, 1/4 inch TRS and XLR (male), plus an external ground lug.

Ground isolation

The two transformers totally separate the input and output signal grounds. Only the 1/4 inch sleeve and XLR pin 1 of channel one connect to chassis ground; all other inputs and outputs are ground isolated. When only the RCA jacks are used, ART says to use the external ground lug for chassis ground.

ART DTI: frequently asked questions

Does the DTI need power?

No. It is fully passive.

Which connectors does it have?

XLR, 1/4 inch TRS and RCA on both inputs and outputs, for two channels.

Does it change the signal level?

The transformers are wound for 1:1 unity gain. Insertion loss is 0.4 dB into 100 kΩ and 5.5 dB into 600 Ω.

Where can I buy the ART DTI in India?

The ART DTI is available from Shivansh Electronics, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, with delivery across India.

Workflow 1: Removing hum between two systems

Live and installed sound with ground loops.

Connections

ConnectTo
Source system outputsDTI inputs
DTI outputsDestination system inputs

Setup

  1. Insert the DTI between the two systems.
  2. Use the connector types each side needs.

Tip: The transformers separate the input and output signal grounds.

Workflow 2: RCA source into balanced XLR inputs

Venues connecting consumer gear to pro inputs.

Connections

ConnectTo
RCA sourceDTI RCA inputs
DTI XLR outputsMixer XLR inputs

Setup

  1. Connect the RCA source to the front RCA inputs.
  2. Take the rear XLR outputs to the mixer.

Tip: When using only RCA jacks, use the external ground lug for chassis ground.

Workflow 3: Computer audio to a PA

Presentations and events playing from a computer.

Connections

ConnectTo
Computer line outDTI 1/4 inch or RCA inputs
DTI XLR outputsPA inputs

Setup

  1. Connect the computer's outputs to the DTI.
  2. Feed the PA from the XLR outputs.

Tip: Isolation between the two systems reduces ground loop noise.

Workflow 4: Stereo feed to a recorder

Studios and AV taking a stereo feed.

Connections

ConnectTo
Mixer outputs L / RDTI inputs 1 / 2
DTI outputs 1 / 2Recorder inputs

Setup

  1. Use channel 1 for left and channel 2 for right.
  2. Pick the connectors that match the recorder.

Tip: 1:1 unity gain keeps the levels unchanged apart from the insertion loss.

Workflow 5: Isolating amplifier inputs

Systems with several power amplifiers.

Connections

ConnectTo
Signal lineDTI input
DTI outputAmplifier input

Setup

  1. Place the DTI in the amplifier's input line.
  2. Repeat on the second channel for another line.

Tip: Two channels in one compact box.

Workflow 6: Clean patch point between system types

Integrators connecting different equipment.

Connections

ConnectTo
XLR, TRS or RCA sourceDTI input
DTI outputXLR, TRS or RCA destination

Setup

  1. Choose any input connector type.
  2. Choose any output connector type.

Tip: XLR, 1/4 inch and RCA on every input and output.
