Product overview

The MOJAVE MA-1000DS is MOJAVE's flagship MA-1000 multi-pattern vacuum tube condenser microphone in the Desert Sand finish: airy detail up top, lush intimacy in the mids and a bottom end that is accurate and authoritative.

The MA-1000 honours the lineage of the great classic tube microphones and elevates it, re-engineered with the best components and a refined circuit design. It excels on lead vocals, orchestral recording and piano. A hand-picked new-old-stock 5840 tube, a large-diaphragm dual-membrane capsule with presence and airiness, a custom designed output transformer and a remotely controlled, continuously variable polar pattern make it effortlessly exceptional. The Desert Sand finish shows a cream body with polished trim, side vents and a red MOJAVE badge.

Continuously variable pattern Omni to 8
Maximum SPL with the 15 dB pad 135 dB
Self‑noise, nominal 14 dB‑A
New‑old‑stock vacuum tube 5840

Key features

  • Original new-old-stock 5840 tube, hand-picked: a smooth response that excels on any source
  • Large-diaphragm dual-membrane capsule with presence and airiness
  • Custom designed output transformer, wound to MOJAVE's specifications
  • Remotely controlled, continuously variable polar pattern selector on the power supply
  • Switchable 15 dB pad and switchable bass roll-off
  • Internal switchable power supply voltage
  • Shock mount, premium 20-foot cable and premium connectors included

Continuously variable pattern

The rotary selector on the front panel of the power supply chooses omnidirectional, cardioid or figure-8, or any point in between. The 2 o'clock position can be especially pleasant for vocals, and for a close-miked acoustic guitar in cardioid, turning towards omni reduces excessive proximity effect. Sensitivity is -37.5 dB (omni), -36.0 dB (cardioid) and -34.0 dB (figure-8) re. 1 V/Pa.

Pad and bass cut

The 15 dB pad reduces the signal before the head amplifier, raising the maximum SPL from 120 dB to 135 dB. The bass cut switch gives 6 dB per octave attenuation below 100 Hz, removing rumble or bass build-up due to proximity effect.

Flagship build

The capsule and electronics are adapted from mid-1950s design practice and built with modern components. The dedicated power supply feeds the microphone with 6 V DC at 150 mA and 125 V DC at 0.7 mA. Every MA-1000 is thoroughly tested and given a 24-hour factory burn-in before shipment, and the complete system comes in a rugged carrying case.

In the box

  • Presentation carrying case with the MA-1000 microphone (Desert Sand finish)
  • AC-operated microphone power supply
  • 20-foot premium microphone cable with 7-pin male and female connectors
  • MA-1000 shock mount with European adapter (fitted to the shock mount)
  • AC power cable for the power supply (moulded IEC type with plug)
  • Rugged carrying case for all the above items

MOJAVE MA-1000DS: frequently asked questions

What is the MA-1000 best at?

MOJAVE names lead vocals, orchestral recording and piano: airy detail, lush mids and an accurate, authoritative low end.

Where is the pattern selected?

On a rotary knob on the front panel of the power supply. When turning to omni, it is normal for the sound to disappear for a moment.

Does it need phantom power?

No. It runs from its dedicated power supply; phantom power on the connected channel does no harm if the 3-pin cables are wired properly.

What does DS mean in MA-1000DS?

MA-1000DS is the MA-1000 in the Desert Sand finish. The microphone, its specifications and its accessories are those of the MA-1000.

Where can I buy the MOJAVE MA-1000DS in India?

The MOJAVE MA-1000DS is available from Shivansh Electronics, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, with delivery across India.
