It combines a 3 pole XLR receptacle and a 1/4" phone jack in one XLR shell, so balanced or line inputs share one connector and rack space is saved. Very low conductor capacitance makes it suitable for digital audio, and the bronze contacts carry 0.2 µm hard gold over 2 µm nickel.
