Product overview

The SOLID STATE LOGIC SSL 1 is a portable 2-in / 2-out USB-C audio interface with an SSL-designed microphone pre-amp, Legacy 4K analogue colour enhancement, an instrument / line input and next-gen 32-bit / 192 kHz converters.

Whether you are starting out or producing on the move, SSL 1 makes professional-quality audio simple and accessible for musicians, producers, content creators and streamers. Key features

  • SSL-designed microphone pre-amp: bus-powered, low-noise, 63 dB gain range
  • +48 V phantom power and a 75 Hz high-pass filter
  • Legacy 4K analogue enhancement, inspired by the 4000-series console
  • Instrument (1 MΩ) or line (10 kΩ) input on channel 2
  • Next-gen 32-bit / 192 kHz AD / DA converters
  • High-current headphone output with class-leading dynamic range
  • Balanced, DC-coupled monitor outputs, also suitable for sending CV to synths
  • MIX button for low-latency input monitoring with computer playback
  • 3 x stereo loopback for podcasting, content creation and streaming
  • USB bus-powered or powered externally from a 5 V USB source
  • SSL Production Pack software bundle

SSL pre-amp and Legacy 4K

Channel 1 is a bus-powered, low-noise SSL microphone pre-amp with a 63 dB gain range and an EIN of -130.5 dBu (A-weighted), with +48 V phantom power and a 75 Hz, 18 dB/octave high-pass filter. Legacy 4K Analogue Enhancement distils two key elements of the 4000-series console sound into a single analogue circuit: a carefully controlled amount of sweet-sounding harmonic distortion and a forward yet musical high-frequency boost, particularly pleasant on vocals and acoustic guitar.

Instrument and line input

Channel 2 captures DI guitar and bass on its 1 MΩ instrument input, or synths, drum machines and samplers with LINE engaged (10 kΩ, up to +24.5 dBu), keeping every take rich, dynamic and full of tone.

Monitoring and loopback

The MIX button sums the near-zero latency inputs (under 1 ms) with USB playback for comfortable monitoring while recording. Three stereo loopback pairs route the interface outputs back into inputs 3-8 internally, so system audio, music beds and effects can be captured alongside the microphone for podcasts and live streams.

Built to move with you

Rugged and compact, SSL 1 is class compliant on computers and USB Audio Class 2.0 mobile devices, with an ASIO / WDM driver for the other main computer platform. Power it over the USB port, or from a 5 V phone charger or power bank on the 5V EXT port to save the battery of a mobile device.

In the box

  • SSL 1
  • 1.5 m USB-C to USB-C cable
  • Safety guide

SOLID STATE LOGIC SSL 1: frequently asked questions

Does SSL 1 need a separate power supply?

No. It is powered by the computer over USB, or by a 5 V source such as a phone charger or power bank on the 5V EXT port.

Can I record a guitar directly?

Yes. Plug the guitar or bass into input 2 with the LINE switch off: the instrument input offers 1 MΩ impedance.

Can I use SSL 1 with a phone or tablet?

Yes. SSL 1 is plug-and-play with USB Audio Class 2.0 mobile devices; power it from 5V EXT to reduce battery drain. It does not charge the connected device.

What is loopback for?

It records computer audio, such as a media player or application sound, into inputs 3-8 without cables: ideal for streaming, podcasting and content creation.
