Product overview
The TASCAM BO-16DX/OUT is a rugged 1U rack-mount adapter for installation and live sound. Its 16 front-panel XLR outputs (male) are internally linked to two 25-pin D-sub connectors on the rear panel.
It gives a fast, tidy interface between stage boxes, front-of-house and monitor consoles, audio-over-IP converters and more. TASCAM designed it as a companion to the ML-16D and ML-32D analogue/Dante converters; together the BO-16DX/IN and BO-16DX/OUT form a complete link between analogue and digital systems. The D-sub connectors follow the TASCAM pin assignment compliant with AES59-2012. The unit mounts in either of two 180-degree rotations to keep D-sub cables straight, leaves about 13 mm above each connector to reach the XLR release levers when stacked, and can also sit at the front of a rack as a patch bay.

TASCAM BO-16DX/OUT: frequently asked questions
Which D-sub pinout does it use?
The 25-pin D-sub connectors use the TASCAM pin assignment, which complies with AES59-2012. Channels 1-8 and 9-16 each have their own connector.
Can it be mounted facing backwards?
Yes. The rack-mount ears can be attached so that the unit faces forward or backward in a standard 19-inch rack, and the panel markings support upside-down installation. The ears can also be removed for tabletop use.
Where can I buy the TASCAM BO-16DX/OUT in India?
The TASCAM BO-16DX/OUT is available from Shivansh Electronics, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, with delivery across India.
Workflow 1: Dante converter outputs to XLR
Turn the analogue outputs of a TASCAM ML-16D or ML-32D into 16 XLR outputs for amplifiers, consoles or recorders.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| ML‑16D or ML‑32D analogue output D‑sub connectors | BO‑16DX/OUT rear D‑sub 1‑8 / 9‑16 via D‑sub multi‑cables |
| BO‑16DX/OUT BALANCED OUTPUT 1‑16 (XLR male) | Amplifiers, processors or console inputs |
Setup
- Mount the BO-16DX/OUT in the rack, choosing the rotation that keeps the D-sub cables straight.
- Connect D-sub multi-cables from the converter outputs to the rear 1-8 and 9-16 connectors.
- Fix the D-sub plugs with the attachment screws.
- Connect XLR cables from outputs 1-16 to the destination equipment and label each channel.
Tip: A BO-16DX/IN and BO-16DX/OUT pair gives a complete analogue in and out link for the converter.
Workflow 2: Feeding broadcast, studio or PA equipment
Distribute 16 balanced outputs from equipment with D-sub analogue outputs to XLR destinations.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| Device D‑sub analogue outputs (TASCAM pinout) | BO‑16DX/OUT rear D‑sub connectors |
| BO‑16DX/OUT XLR outputs | Destination equipment XLR inputs |
Setup
- Mount the unit at the front or back of the rack, as the cabling requires.
- Connect the D-sub multi-cables to the rear connectors.
- Run XLR cables from the front outputs to each destination.
- Mark the routing in the label space above the connectors.
