Product overview
The TASCAM MM-4D/IN-X is a compact half-rack converter that brings four mic/line inputs on balanced XLR connectors onto the Dante network, with TASCAM mic preamps and a built-in DSP mixer.
Made for the contractor market and the professional audio scene, the MM-4D/IN converts four mic/line inputs into four Dante output signals, and also takes four Dante inputs into its mixer so sources already on the network can be used. Its TASCAM mic preamps support +48V phantom power and remote gain control; each input has a compressor, 4-band EQ and automatic level control, and an 8 in / 4 out matrix mixer with ducking and an ambient noise compensator builds four zones for the network. It runs at up to 24-bit / 96 kHz, takes its power from the network cable (PoE) and is set up from TASCAM's own control software for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android. The MM-4D/IN-X is the XLR connector model of the MM-4D/IN.

Studio-quality TASCAM mic preamps
The natural-sounding, high-grade TASCAM mic preamps draw on years of pro audio experience. Input range is -70 dBu to +26 dBu with -125 dBu equivalent input noise and a 108 dB signal-to-noise ratio. Each channel can be set to mic or line, with +48V phantom power, a -20 dB pad, HIGH or LOW gain and trim (0 to 33.0 dB for mics), all remotely through TASCAM DCP CONNECT, via Dante or other external controllers.
Processing on every input
A compressor with threshold, ratio, gain, attack and release keeps levels even; a 4-band parametric EQ with low cut shapes each mic; and automatic level control raises or lowers the input when a speaker is too quiet or too loud. Polarity, fader, mute and channel grouping complete each input.
Matrix mixer with ducking and ANC
Up to eight sources, the four mic/line inputs and four Dante inputs, are mixed into four zones that are sent to the four Dante outputs; DIRECT mode bypasses the mixer so inputs 1-4 go straight to Dante outputs 1-4. Ducking lowers background music automatically when a mic is used, and the ambient noise compensator keeps the main sound easy to hear as the room gets louder.
Simple installation and control
Power comes over the network cable from a PoE switch, from the optional TASCAM PS-P1220E adapter, or through the power daisy-chain connectors. The included brackets fix the unit on or under a desk or on a wall, and the optional AK-RS1 shelf puts two units in one 19-inch rack space. Installers use TASCAM DCP CONNECT; end-users get a simple TASCAM EZ CONNECT screen.
In the box

TASCAM MM-4D/IN-X: frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the MM-4D/IN-E and the MM-4D/IN-X?
The MM-4D/IN-E uses balanced Euroblock connectors and adds external control connectors (LED/SWITCH connectors); the MM-4D/IN-X uses balanced XLR connectors. The preamps, DSP, network and power features are the same.
Does it supply phantom power?
Yes. +48V phantom power can be switched on or off for each input channel from TASCAM DCP CONNECT.
Can the mic gain be adjusted remotely?
Yes. Mic/line selection, gain, pad and trim are all set remotely through TASCAM DCP CONNECT, via Dante or other external controllers.
Does it need a separate power supply?
No. It can be powered by PoE from a PoE network switch. The TASCAM PS-P1220E AC adapter is optional.
Where can I buy the TASCAM MM-4D/IN-X in India?
The TASCAM MM-4D/IN-X is available from Shivansh Electronics, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, with delivery across India.
Workflow 1: Meeting room microphones onto the Dante network
Bring four table or ceiling mics into an installed Dante system.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| Condenser or dynamic mics | ANALOG IN 1‑4 (XLR) |
| PoE gigabit network switch | DATA+PoE port |
| Computer or tablet with TASCAM DCP CONNECT | Same network as the unit |
Setup
- Mount the unit and connect DATA+PoE to a PoE gigabit switch.
- In TASCAM DCP CONNECT set each input to MIC, turn on +48V for condenser mics and set gain and trim.
- Turn on the compressor and automatic level control for steady speech levels.
- Route the mics or a mix to the Dante outputs and on to the receiving devices.
Tip: Name every device before you set up routing: changing a name later clears its routing.
Workflow 2: Paging with automatic ducking
Lower background music automatically whenever someone speaks into the paging mic.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| Paging mic | ANALOG IN 1 |
| Music source on the Dante network | Dante inputs |
| Output unit for the speakers (e.g. TASCAM ML‑4D/OUT) | Dante outputs |
Setup
- Set input 1 to MIC with the right gain and phantom setting for the paging mic.
- Route the Dante music channels into the mixer and build a mix with the mic and the music.
- Turn on ducking with the paging mic as its source; set threshold, attenuation and release time.
- Route the mix to the Dante outputs and save a preset.
Workflow 3: Ambient noise compensation in public areas
Keep announcements and music clear as a hall, shop or concourse fills up.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| Ambient sensing mic | ANALOG IN 2 |
| Programme or paging source | ANALOG IN 1 or Dante inputs |
| Output unit for the speakers | Dante outputs |
Setup
- Connect a mic that picks up the room noise to an input and set its gain.
- Turn on ANC for the mix and select that mic as the ANC source.
- Set maximum and minimum gain, ratio and response time.
- Set threshold, gap time and gap threshold so noise is measured during pauses in the programme.
Tip: A longer response time gives smoother, less noticeable level changes.
Workflow 4: Lecture halls and auditoriums
Bring lectern and audience mics onto the network with steady, clear levels.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| Lectern mic | ANALOG IN 1 |
| Audience or panel mics | ANALOG IN 2‑4 |
| PoE gigabit network switch | DATA+PoE port |
Setup
- Set each input to MIC with phantom power, pad, gain and trim to suit each mic.
- Use the 4-band EQ low cut to reduce handling and air-conditioning rumble.
- Turn on automatic level control for speakers at different distances.
- Mix the mics into a zone and route it to a Dante output for the hall system or a recorder.
Tip: Group channel faders to raise or lower all audience mics together.
Workflow 5: Line-level sources into Dante
Put a music player, mixer or other line-level device onto the network.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| Line‑level source | ANALOG IN 1‑4 (XLR) |
| PoE gigabit network switch | DATA+PoE port |
Setup
- Make sure phantom power is off, then connect the line-level source.
- Set the inputs to LINE and adjust trim (-10 to +10 dB).
- Set the unit to DIRECT mode so analogue inputs go straight to Dante outputs.
- Route the Dante outputs to the receiving devices and check the SIG indicators.
Workflow 6: Simple end-user control with TASCAM EZ CONNECT
Let staff choose sources and adjust volume for their area without the full set-up.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| Smartphone, tablet or computer | Wi‑Fi access point on the same network |
| Mics | ANALOG IN (XLR) |
| PoE gigabit network switch | DATA+PoE port |
Setup
- In TASCAM DCP CONNECT open the EZ CONNECT page and name an area.
- Set an area password and choose the mix to control.
- Select up to four volume targets, such as ANALOG IN or MIX 1-4.
- Log in to TASCAM EZ CONNECT with the area password and test the controls.
Tip: Up to four areas can be set, each with its own password.
