Product overview

The TASCAM Sonicview 16dp is a 96 kHz digital mixing console with two 7-inch colour touchscreens, 16 Class 1 HDIA mic preamps, a 54-bit floating-point FPGA mixing engine, Dante as standard and two TASCAM expansion slots. It is the dual-power (dp) model of the Sonicview 16: AC and DC power inputs for a redundant power supply.

Built on more than 50 years of TASCAM know-how, the Sonicview combines newly developed Class 1 HDIA mic preamps, 32-bit A/D converters and an FPGA mixing engine running at 96 kHz with 54-bit floating-point processing. The VIEW interface (Visual Interactive Ergonomic Workflow) places a touchscreen with eight encoders above every eight channels, so you can see and adjust many parameters without paging through menus. With 44 input channels, 22 MIX buses plus MAIN L/R, seven freely assignable fader layers, Dante, a 32 x 32 USB audio interface, GPIO and a choice of option cards, it suits live music venues, concert halls, theatres, event spaces, installations, studios and broadcast work.

Studio-grade sound at 96 kHz

The internal sampling frequency is always 96 kHz, and the FPGA mixing engine works in 54-bit floating point so that audio captured by the 32-bit A/D converters is mixed at the same resolution. The engine's internal delay is just two samples (20.8 µs), and the path from a mic input through the channel, bus and MAIN L/R module to an analogue output takes only 0.51 ms. The Class 1 HDIA preamps use instrumentation amplifiers for low noise (EIN -128 dBu or less) and accept up to +32 dBu with the pad on.

Intuitive VIEW interface

The Home Screen shows the state of every channel like an analogue console, and touching a function opens its settings at once. Full Screen mode spreads one channel's gain, compressor, EQ and more across all touchscreens. Channel name LCDs with colour LEDs, press-and-turn encoders, guarded MUTE keys and differently shaped SOLO and SEL keys help prevent mistakes. Seven fader layers, 18 colour-coded USER KEYS and 8 DCA groups can be arranged to suit each show.

Flexible processing and routing

Every input channel has gate / expander / de-esser, high-pass filter and EQ, compressor / ducker and delay; every output has EQ, dynamics, delay and a 31-band graphic EQ. The 22 MIX buses can each be set as AUX or GROUP, stereo or mono, and MIX buses can send to other MIX buses. Digital routing lets one source feed several channels, so a concert PA mix and a live stream mix can be built separately from the same inputs. Four effect engines provide reverbs, delays, chorus, flanger, phaser and pitch shift.

Networking, broadcast and remote control

Redundant Dante with 64 inputs and 64 outputs is built in, and two TASCAM slots accept optional cards including the IF-ST2110 for SMPTE ST 2110-30/31 and AES67 IP connections. Two monitor buses, talkback with return talkback, Audio Follow Video (video switcher tallies via GPIO move the faders), an automatic mixer for panel discussions, Ember+ remote control and SNMP monitoring make the Sonicview at home in broadcast studios and installations. Word clock in and out, 8-in / 8-out GPIO and a footswitch input complete the connections.

Dual power for critical events

The Sonicview 16dp adds an EXT DC IN connector (XLR 4-pin type, DC 14-27 V) to the standard AC inlet, so the console can be fed from two power sources at the same time. TASCAM supplies the dedicated PS-P2450 AC adapter with the console.

TASCAM Sonicview 16dp: frequently asked questions

What does the Sonicview's 96 kHz engine mean in practice?

The mixer always runs at 96 kHz with 54-bit floating-point processing, giving high resolution and very low latency: 0.51 ms from an analogue input to an analogue output.

Can it record a show?

Yes. It has a 32-in / 32-out USB audio interface for multitrack recording on a computer and a 2-track SD card recorder; the optional IF-MTR32 card adds 32-track recording to SD card on the console itself.

Can I control it remotely?

Yes. The free TASCAM Sonicview Control app for Windows, Mac and iPad controls the console over the network and also works as an offline editor. Ember+ remote control is supported as well.

What is the difference between the Sonicview 16 and the Sonicview 16dp?

The Sonicview 16dp is the dual-power model: it accepts DC power through an EXT DC IN connector in addition to AC power, and the dedicated TASCAM PS-P2450 AC adapter is included. Size, weight and mixing features are the same.

Where can I buy the TASCAM Sonicview 16dp in India?

The TASCAM Sonicview 16dp is available from Shivansh Electronics, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, with delivery across India.
