Key features
- 6550 beam power tube (power tetrode)
- Delivers 35 watts at its output
- More gain and better stability than the 6L6 design it is based on
- Long life characteristic for fewer tube changes over the years
- For guitar amplifiers and rotary speaker systems, and high-power tube bass amplifiers
- Black Diamond Series: rigorously tested, cryogenically treated and extensively burned-in
The 6550-TK sound
The 6550 was developed in 1955 for servo amplifiers and industrial applications. The design is based on the 6L6, but with more gain and better stability. Like the 6L6, it is a beam power tube, or power tetrode, that can painlessly deliver 35 watts at its output. Bass players who know the classic high-power tube bass amplifiers know both the beauty of the 6550 sound and the raw power it delivers.
Built to last
One of the best features of the 6550 is its long life characteristic, which grants the user fewer tube changes over the years.
Applications
- High-power bass amplifier: bass players running high-power tube bass amplifiers
- Guitar amplifier: guitar amplifiers built around the 6550
- Rotary speaker system: organists and keyboard players with tube-powered rotary speaker cabinets
- Studio backline: studios keeping their 6550 amplifiers session-ready
- Live sound and touring spares: backline techs carrying replacement power tubes
- Rental inventory: rental stores retubing amplifiers between bookings
Black Diamond Series
TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik Black Diamond Series vacuum tubes are new production tubes, manufactured in partnership with a specialist vacuum tube factory in Slovakia and designed to be harmonically rich and tonally balanced. Each tube is rigorously tested, cryogenically treated and extensively burned-in before it carries the Black Diamond name, so the 6550-TK arrives ready for the most demanding applications.
This configuration: Single
This product is one 6550-TK tube, sold singly.
Fitting and care
Always switch the equipment off, unplug it from the mains and let the tubes cool completely before removing or fitting a tube. Fit the 6550-TK only in a socket specified for the 6550, keep each tube in the position of the one it replaces, and press it straight and fully into the socket. Power sections hold high voltages, so leave any work inside the chassis, including any bias adjustment the amplifier requires, to a qualified technician. After fitting, let the equipment warm up and listen at low volume first. Store spare tubes in their packaging, protected from knocks and moisture.
