Product overview
The TELEFUNKEN M60 FET Amplifier is the M60 FET microphone body on its own: the phantom-powered, true class-A discrete FET amplifier that accepts TELEFUNKEN's thread-on TK60, TK61 and TK62 capsules.
It is the part to buy when you already own TK6x capsules, want to add a second body to build a stereo pair, or need a spare amplifier for a busy studio or rental stock. Fit any TK6x capsule and it becomes an M60 (cardioid), M61 (omnidirectional) or M62 (hypercardioid). The amplifier is hand assembled in TELEFUNKEN's US facility using premium components and an ultra-clean circuit with an American-made transformer, and its circuit topology captures a wide frequency range for life-like reproduction of most sources.
| Self‑noise (amplifier) | 5 dBA |
| THD, amplifier, 1 kHz at 1 Pa | < 0.01% |
| Output impedance | 120 ohms |
| Phantom power | +48V |
Key features
- M60 FET amplifier body, supplied without a capsule
- Accepts all TK6x capsules: TK60 cardioid, TK61 omnidirectional, TK62 hypercardioid
- High-headroom, low-noise FET amplifier: true class-A discrete circuit
- TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik T61CT American-made transformer
- Ultra-fast transient response and extended frequency range
- +48V phantom powered: no external power supply needed
- Designed and hand assembled in the USA
One body, three microphones
The M60 amplifier threads together with any TK6x capsule in seconds. Each capsule has an edge-terminated 15 mm diameter, 6-micron gold-sputtered membrane, is held to a strict ±1 dB sensitivity tolerance and is individually tested and matched by frequency response. With a TK60 the result is the M60 cardioid, ideal for drum overheads and acoustic guitar; with a TK61 the M61 omnidirectional; with a TK62 the M62 hypercardioid for cymbals, percussion and live stereo pairs.
Quiet and fast
With a capsule fitted, the complete microphone offers 20 Hz - 20 kHz ±3 dB, 10 mV/Pa sensitivity, more than 135 dB SPL handling and 89 dBA signal-to-noise ratio. The amplifier's own self-noise is 5 dBA and its distortion stays below 0.01% at 1 kHz and 1 Pa, so the body adds very little of its own to the capsule's sound.
Expand an existing system
Add the amplifier to a single M60 system to make a second microphone for stereo work, or keep one as a backup for touring and live sound. The slim 140 mm x 20 mm body is easy to place over a kit or close to an instrument. TELEFUNKEN's M 761 elastic shock mount, WS20 20 mm foam windscreen, ZC61 zipper case and SGMC-5R cable complete the microphone; they are not part of this amplifier-only product.
Setting up and care
TELEFUNKEN's quick start is simple: attach the M 761 shock mount to a stand, push the microphone through both sets of elastics, connect a 3-pin XLR cable such as TELEFUNKEN's SGMC-5R to the preamp input and apply +48V phantom power, allowing 15 seconds to power up. Mute the channel before engaging phantom power, as the microphone can produce a loud pop as it turns on. Phantom power is a standard feature of most mixers, consoles and preamplifiers, so no external power supply is needed on stage or in the studio. Between sessions, keep the microphones and capsules in the ZC61 zipper case (available separately).
Stereo configurations from the SDC manual
- XY (TK60 or TK62): two microphones angled 90 degrees apart with the centres of the capsules directly over each other, as close as possible without touching; direct-sounding and always phase coherent
- ORTF (TK60): two microphones angled 110 degrees apart with the capsules spaced 17 cm, designed to mimic the placement of the human ears
- Spaced pair (TK60 or TK61): two parallel microphones about 60 cm apart, or up to 3 m depending on the distance from the source, the environment and the desired stereo width
- Three-microphone tree (TK61 with SD40 spheres): left and right 2 m apart, centre 1.5 m in front, distances no less than 1.5 m
