Product overview

The TELEFUNKEN SGMC-10R 10 m Right-Angle XLR Cable is a 10 m (32 ft) TELEFUNKEN Stage Series microphone cable with a right-angle female XLR and a male XLR, built with 100% copper conductors and a copper braid shield.

TELEFUNKEN engineered the Stage Series microphone cable for live sound stages and recording studios. Made from 100% copper wire, it is ideal for lower profile applications around the drum set and percussion rig, as well as on vocals and instruments. Low capacitance keeps the sound detailed and transparent, silver solder joints give maximum conductivity and strength, and a TELEFUNKEN cable tie wrap is included to keep the cable neat between shows and sessions.

Key features

  • 100% copper conductors for excellent signal transfer
  • Copper braid shield for maximum RMI and EMI noise rejection
  • Low capacitance for detailed, transparent sound quality
  • Silver solder joints for maximum conductivity and strength
  • Right-angle female XLR connector (5R and 10R models only)
  • Length: 10 m (32 ft)
  • TELEFUNKEN cable tie wrap included

Built for the stage

Stage work is hard on cables: they are walked on, coiled and uncoiled every night and run past lighting and power lines. The Stage Series answers that with 100% copper conductors for a clean signal path and a copper braid shield that rejects radio-frequency (RMI) and electromagnetic (EMI) interference. Every joint is silver soldered, which TELEFUNKEN specifies for maximum conductivity and mechanical strength at the connector, the point where cables usually take the most stress.

Right-angle female XLR

On the SGMC-10R the female XLR that plugs into the microphone is a right-angle connector. It turns the cable through 90 degrees at the microphone, so the plug sits close to the body and clip instead of sticking out. That is what makes the right-angle versions so useful for the lower profile applications TELEFUNKEN names: microphones clipped to snare and toms, tight spaces inside a kick drum port or between cymbal stands, and hanging or upside-down microphones where a straight plug would catch.

Choosing the length

TELEFUNKEN makes the SGMC in 1 m (3 ft), 2 m (6 ft), 5 m (16 ft) and 10 m (32 ft) lengths, with the 5 m and 10 m lengths also offered with a right-angle female XLR. At 10 m (32 ft), the SGMC-10R covers the longer runs: from the front of a large stage back to the stage box, from the far side of a drum riser, or across a live room to the control-room tie lines.

Care and handling

Coil the cable loosely using the over-under method, never around the elbow, and secure it with the TELEFUNKEN tie wrap. Always unplug by gripping the connector body rather than pulling on the cable, keep connectors capped or bagged when stored, and route the cable away from mains power leads and lighting dimmers on stage.

In the box

  • TELEFUNKEN SGMC-10R 10 m Right-Angle XLR Cable (10 m (32 ft), a right-angle female XLR and a male XLR)
  • TELEFUNKEN cable tie wrap

The SGMC is a standard XLR microphone cable: it carries mic-level signals and passes +48V phantom power to condenser microphones and active direct boxes in the usual way.

TELEFUNKEN SGMC-10R 10 m Right-Angle XLR Cable: frequently asked questions

What connectors does the SGMC-10R have?

A right-angle female XLR at the microphone end and a male XLR at the input end. TELEFUNKEN offers the right-angle female XLR on the 5R and 10R models only.

What is the cable made of?

100% copper conductors with a copper braid shield and silver solder joints, engineered by TELEFUNKEN for low capacitance and detailed, transparent sound.

Can I use it with condenser microphones?

Yes. As a standard XLR microphone cable it passes +48V phantom power from the console, preamp or audio interface to condenser microphones and active direct boxes.

Where does TELEFUNKEN recommend it?

On live sound stages and in recording studios, and especially for lower profile applications around the drum set and percussion rig, as well as on vocals and instruments.

Is anything else included?

Yes, a TELEFUNKEN cable tie wrap for coiling and storing the cable.

Where can I buy the TELEFUNKEN SGMC-10R 10 m Right-Angle XLR Cable in India?

The TELEFUNKEN SGMC-10R 10 m Right-Angle XLR Cable is available from Shivansh Electronics, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, with delivery across India.

Workflow 1: Drum set and percussion

Kick, snare, toms and percussion, where TELEFUNKEN names the Stage Series as ideal for lower profile applications.

Connections

ConnectTo
Drum microphonesFemale XLR end of each SGMC cable
Male XLR endDrum sub‑snake or stage box inputs
Stage boxConsole channel inputs

Setup

  1. Position the drum microphones and leave a little slack at each one so a stick hit or pedal move cannot pull the cable.
  2. Plug the female XLR into the microphone; a right-angle SGMC-5R or SGMC-10R keeps the plug low and tight to clips on toms and snare.
  3. Run the cables along the hardware and floor, away from pedals and the drummer's feet, into the stage box.
  4. Line-check every channel and label both ends.

Tip: Short 1 m and 2 m lengths keep a percussion rig tidy when a sub-snake sits next to the kit.

Workflow 2: Live vocals

Lead and backing vocal microphones on stage.

Connections

ConnectTo
Microphone (XLR output)Female XLR end of the SGMC‑10R
Male XLR endMic input on the console, stage box or audio interface
Mic inputMic gain; +48V only if the microphone needs it

Setup

  1. Choose a length that reaches from the microphone stand to the stage box with slack for the performer to move.
  2. Connect the female XLR to the microphone and the male XLR to the stage box.
  3. Run the cable down the stand and along the floor where it will not be walked on, then tape or tie it off.
  4. Set gain while the singer performs at full level.

Workflow 3: Studio vocal and instrument recording

Recording vocals, acoustic instruments and amplifiers in a studio.

Connections

ConnectTo
Microphone (XLR output)Female XLR end of the SGMC‑10R
Male XLR endMic input on the console, stage box or audio interface
Audio interface or preampRecords the microphone signal

Setup

  1. Mount the microphone and connect the female XLR end of the cable.
  2. Plug the male XLR into the preamp or interface input.
  3. Switch on +48V phantom power only for condenser microphones that need it, after the cable is connected.
  4. Set gain, then dress the cable along the stand so it does not touch the microphone mount.

Workflow 4: Guitar and bass amplifiers

Close-miking guitar and bass cabinets on stage or in the studio.

Connections

ConnectTo
Amplifier microphoneFemale XLR end of the SGMC‑10R
Male XLR endStage box or interface mic input

Setup

  1. Place the microphone at the speaker grille on a short stand or clamp.
  2. Plug in the female XLR; a right-angle connector is useful where the microphone hangs over the cabinet.
  3. Route the cable behind the amplifier, away from its mains lead, to the input.
  4. Set gain at full playing volume and check for hum or buzz.

Workflow 5: Condenser microphones and active DI boxes

Any source that needs +48V phantom power through the cable.

Connections

ConnectTo
