Product overview
The ART Dual RP is a two-channel phantom powered remote preamp designed for dynamic and ribbon microphones.
It has three main advantages. It adds clean, low-noise gain (up to +27 dB at a 10 k load), an ideal solution for low-output microphones. It offers variable impedance on both channels, so the preamp response can be tailored to each microphone. And it shortens the distance between microphone and preamp, sending balanced signals over long cable runs to the mixer or interface with less interference and signal loss. The Dual RP runs on phantom power but does not pass it to its inputs, so it is safe with delicate ribbon microphones, and a switchable high-pass filter on each channel removes rumble and tightens bass. It is packaged in a rugged extrusion with rubber feet.
| Remote mic preamp channels | 2 |
| Gain at 10 k load | +27 dB |
| Variable impedance per channel | 150 Ω - 10 kΩ |
| Switchable low cut per channel | 100 Hz |
Key features
- Two very low noise mic preamps
- Switchable 100 Hz low cut filter on each channel
- Variable impedance control, 150 Ω to 10 kΩ, per channel
- Adds low-noise, clean gain: at least 20 dB
- Runs off +48 V phantom power, not passed to the microphones
- Low THD discrete circuitry (< 0.002 % at 1 kHz typ.)
- Balanced outputs that drive long cables
- Heavy duty extruded chassis
Impedance and low cut
The Imp. 1 and Imp. 2 controls set the load each microphone sees. ART explains that dynamic microphones are sensitive to loading, and that ribbon microphones prefer an input impedance several times larger than their output impedance; a higher setting keeps their full frequency response. The Low Cut switches on the rear engage a single tuned high-pass filter at 100 Hz that preserves some low frequency content, especially useful for close miked sources to cut pops and wind noise.
Connections and operation
Two female XLR inputs on the front take the microphones; two male balanced XLR outputs on the rear go to phantom powered inputs of a mixer or preamp. ART's operation: connect the outputs, connect the microphones, then engage phantom power at the mixer and set the gain there.

ART Dual RP: frequently asked questions
Is the Dual RP safe for ribbon microphones?
Yes. Phantom power from the mixer powers the Dual RP but does not pass through to its inputs.
Does it need a power adaptor?
No. It runs from a standard 48 V phantom power supply on the inputs it feeds.
How much gain does it add?
20 dB at a 600 Ω load and +27 dB at a 10 k load (maximum gain spec).
Where can I buy the ART Dual RP in India?
The ART Dual RP is available from Shivansh Electronics, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, with delivery across India.
Workflow 1: Stereo pair of ribbon microphones
Studios recording room, drums or ensembles with ribbon microphones.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| Ribbon microphones | Dual RP Input 1 and Input 2 |
| Balanced Output 1 and 2 | Two phantom powered mixer or interface inputs |
Setup
- Connect the outputs first, with gain at minimum.
- Connect the microphones, then engage phantom power at the mixer.
- Set Imp. 1 and Imp. 2 and adjust the gain at the mixer.
Tip: Phantom power does not pass through to the microphones.
Workflow 2: Two dynamic microphones on long cable runs
Live stages and installations.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| Dynamic microphones | Dual RP inputs |
| Dual RP outputs | Stage box or mixer inputs with phantom power |
Setup
- Place the Dual RP close to the microphones.
- Engage Low Cut on each channel to remove rumble and wind noise if needed.
Tip: The balanced outputs drive long cable runs with ease.
Workflow 3: More level from low-output microphones
Podcast, voice and instrument recording.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| Low‑output microphone | Dual RP input |
Setup
- Set the channel impedance towards 10 kΩ for the highest gain.
- Bring the mixer gain up to the desired level.
Tip: Maximum gain is +27 dB at a 10 k load.
Workflow 4: Kick and snare dynamic microphones
Drum recording and live sound.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| Two drum microphones | Dual RP inputs |
Setup
- Try the impedance for each microphone by ear.
- Use Low Cut where the low end is not needed.
Tip: ART notes that dynamic microphones are sensitive to loading.
Workflow 5: Vocal and guitar cabinet microphone
Singer-songwriters recording two microphones at once.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| Vocal microphone | Input 1 |
| Guitar cabinet microphone | Input 2 |
Setup
- Set each channel's impedance independently.
- Engage Low Cut on the vocal channel against pops.
Tip: The single tuned filter preserves some low frequency content.
Workflow 6: Upgrading a mixer's microphone inputs
Small studios and rehearsal rooms.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| Dual RP outputs | Mixer XLR inputs with phantom power |
Setup
- Switch on phantom power on the two mixer channels.
- Set the mixer gain for the added level of the Dual RP.
Tip: The Dual RP needs no adaptor: it runs on the mixer's phantom power.
