Product overview

The GENELEC G Four is a two-way active speaker for higher playback levels and more low-frequency extension: an exquisite balance of sonic purity and energy that makes it perfect for larger spaces.

Designed to bring out the finest details and nuances of your favourite music and movies, the G Four lets you experience content exactly the way the creators intended, even in challenging acoustic environments. With 105 dB SPL and low-frequency extension down to 41 Hz, it matches that precision with an abundance of power. A 6.5-inch woofer and 3/4-inch metal dome tweeter are driven by two 90 W amplifiers, with balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs.

Power and precision

The G Four brings out the finest details of music and movies, so you hear things you have never heard before, and with 105 dB SPL and bass down to 41 Hz it fills larger rooms with that precision. Simple room compensation switches tailor the sound to your own acoustic environment, ensuring truthful sound wherever you choose to listen.

Getting active

The active design removes the need for bulky external power amplifiers: the amplifiers sit inside the cabinet, optimised for the drivers they feed, so you hook your source directly to the G Four for clean, uncompromised performance.

Minimum Diffraction Enclosure and DCW waveguide

The die-cast aluminium Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE) has rounded edges and gently curved front and sides that avoid the edge diffraction colouring ordinary box speakers, and its thin, stiff walls give a large internal volume and act as a heat sink for the amplifiers. The Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW) shapes the tweeter's wavefront for a flat response on and off axis, a wide listening area, fewer early reflections and precise stereo imaging.

Room response switches

Three banks of rear panel switches set Low Bass (-2, -4 or -6 dB at 45 Hz) and Tabletop (-4 dB at 200 Hz); LEVEL +10 dB and Bass (-2, -4 or -6 dB at 100 Hz); LED OFF and Treble (+2, -2 or -4 dB at 15 kHz). All controls at 0 give a flat anechoic response; the operating manual suggests, for example, Bass -2 dB and Tabletop ON near the listener on a table, or Bass and Low Bass -4 dB in a corner.

Iso-Pod stand and mounting

The supplied Iso-Pod stand isolates the speaker from the surface and tilts it towards the listener; three mounting points allow vertical and symmetrical horizontal positioning. Six M6 threads on the rear take GENELEC wall and ceiling mounts; the base has an M10 thread, and the rear label advises not to mount the G Four on a microphone stand. GENELEC accessories include table, Triol, design and floor stands, stand plates, wall, ceiling and truss mounts, a VESA adapter, a flush mount kit, a hard case and a soft carrying case.

In the box

  • 1 x GENELEC G Four active speaker
  • 1 x mains cable (1.8 m)
  • 1 x operating manual
  • 1 x Iso-Pod kit

GENELEC G Four: frequently asked questions

Does the G Four need an amplifier?

No. Two 90 W amplifiers are built in. Connect a line-level source such as a preamplifier, streamer, TV or computer sound card; never the speaker terminals of a power amplifier.

Can I connect two sources?

Yes. One source can be connected to the balanced XLR input and another to the RCA input, as long as only one is used at a time.

My source is quiet. Can the G Four play louder?

Yes. Set the LEVEL +10 dB switch to raise the input sensitivity by 10 dB; the factory setting is normal.

Which subwoofer suits the G Four?

The GENELEC Home Audio catalogue recommends two F Two subwoofers for a G Four stereo system.

Where can I buy the GENELEC G Four in India?

The GENELEC G Four is available from Shivansh Electronics, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, with delivery across India.

Workflow 1: Stereo pair for music streaming

Play music from a streamer, network player or preamplifier with no separate amplifier.

Connections

ConnectTo
Streamer or preamplifier line outputs (left / right)XLR or RCA input of each speaker
MainsSupplied mains cables

Setup

  1. Place the speakers symmetrically, at equal distance from the listening position, aimed at ear height.
  2. Switch everything off and connect the balanced XLR or RCA cables.
  3. Start with all room response switches at OFF / 0 for a flat response.
  4. Connect the mains cables, switch on and control the volume from the source.

Tip: Vertical placement is preferable; keep the speakers clear of shelves and cabinets that reflect sound.

Workflow 2: Desktop and computer sound

A stereo pair beside a computer screen for music, video and games.

Connections

ConnectTo
Computer line or audio outputRCA input (mini jack to RCA cable)
Iso‑Pod standsUnder each speaker, tilted towards the listener

Setup

  1. Place the speakers on each side of the screen, clear of it, aimed at the listener.
  2. Connect the computer's output with a mini jack to RCA cable split to left and right.
  3. Set Tabletop ON and Bass -2 dB (near the listener on a table), as suggested for desk placement.
  4. Adjust the playback level at the computer.

Tip: Raise or tilt the speakers so that the acoustic axis points at your ears rather than at your chest.

Workflow 3: TV sound with an F Series subwoofer

Better TV sound with deep bass, as shown in the GENELEC Home Audio catalogue.

Connections

ConnectTo
TV optical outputF Series subwoofer optical input
Subwoofer left / right RCA outputsRCA input of each G Four

Setup

  1. Connect the TV's optical output to the GENELEC F Series subwoofer.
  2. Connect the subwoofer's RCA outputs to the G Four speakers: the subwoofer bass manages the system.
  3. Place the speakers beside the TV, aimed at the seating position.
  4. Control the volume with the subwoofer's remote if the TV's optical output has no volume control.

Tip: Set the speakers' room response switches for their own placement before balancing the subwoofer level.

Workflow 4: 5.1 surround home theatre

A surround system from identical G Series speakers and a subwoofer.

Connections

ConnectTo
Home theatre preamplifier / processor outputsXLR or RCA input of each speaker
Preamplifier subwoofer outputF Series subwoofer

Setup

  1. Place the front speakers at ±30° and the surround speakers at ±110° from the centre line, at equal distance.
  2. Connect the preamplifier outputs directly to the speakers and the subwoofer.
  3. Set each speaker's switches for its own position (wall, corner, free standing).
  4. Control the volume from the preamplifier.

Tip: The Quick Setup Guide shows the angles for stereo and 5-channel systems.

Workflow 5: Speakers near a wall or in a corner

Correct the bass build-up that room boundaries cause.

Connections

ConnectTo
Room response switchesRear panel
Line‑level sourceXLR or RCA input

Setup

  1. Start with all switches at OFF / 0.
  2. Free standing in a reverberant room: Bass -4 dB.
  3. In a corner: Bass -4 dB and Low Bass -4 dB.
  4. Listen to well-known recordings and change one setting at a time.

Tip: In a cabinet or wall niche keep at least 5 cm free behind, above and at both sides of the speaker.

Workflow 6: Wall or ceiling mounting

Keep shelves and floors free with GENELEC mounting accessories.

Connections

ConnectTo
GENELEC wall or ceiling mountThreads on the rear of the speaker
Line‑level sourceXLR or RCA input

Setup

  1. Choose a GENELEC wall, ceiling or truss mount listed for the speaker on genelec.com.
  2. Fix the mount to the rear threads and aim the speaker at the listening position.
  3. Route the audio and mains cables neatly; keep the reflex port free.
  4. Set the room response switches for the mounting position.

Tip: The base thread is M10: the rear label advises not to mount the speaker on a microphone stand.
