Product overview

The NEUMANN KH 750 DSP is a compact closed-cabinet DSP studio subwoofer with a 10" long-throw driver, a flexible 2.0/0.1 bass manager, analog and digital inputs and four routing modes: DSP power for all.

The compact KH 750 DSP is the ideal choice for smaller rooms and smaller studio monitors. Its DSP also serves the Neumann monitors connected to its outputs: with the MA 1 measurement microphone and software, stereo systems are corrected automatically for the room, and a multichannel option aligns multichannel set-ups. This also applies to analog Neumann monitors without DSP, which can then use the subwoofer's DSP power.

Key features

  • 10" (265 mm) long-throw driver with ELFF magnet system and robust built-in grille
  • Ultra-compact closed cabinet for the fastest transient response and very low group delay
  • Free-field response 18 - 750 Hz (±3 dB), 105 dB SPL bass capability
  • 2.0/0.1 bass management with bypassable 80 Hz 4th-order crossover
  • Four routing modes: stereo 80 Hz, external bass management, LFE to 120 Hz, LFE full range
  • Two balanced XLR inputs and outputs; 192 kHz / 24-bit AES3 / S/PDIF digital input and AES3 output
  • RJ45 network connector for control with the MA 1 software
  • 8-position phase, continuous low cut, ground lift, universal 100 - 240 V supply

Driver and cabinet

The 10" long-throw driver has a strongly linear magnet system with Extremely Linear Force Factor (ELFF) technology for low distortion even at high excursions. As subwoofers are usually placed on the floor, a robust grille protects the driver. The ultra-stiff wooden cabinet is closed, with excellent self-damping, no standing-wave resonances and a tight bass from very low group delay.

Bass management and routing

The built-in 2.0/0.1 bass manager can be used in many ways: in stereo it inserts a 4th-order 80 Hz high-pass into the outputs to the main monitors and sends everything below 80 Hz to the subwoofer; it can also replay an external 'Sub' channel or the LFE channel up to 120 Hz or full range. Phase, low cut, gain and level controls integrate the subwoofer seamlessly, and several subwoofers along the front wall form a Plane Wave Bass Array.

Applications

Bass extension and higher maximum SPL of a monitoring system, lower distortion of the main loudspeakers, LFE and 'Sub' channel reproduction, extension of KH line subwoofer systems. For music, broadcast and post-production studios: tracking, mixing and mastering.

In the box

NEUMANN KH 750 DSP: frequently asked questions

Which monitors can I use with it?

Any Neumann studio monitor, for example the KH 80 DSP (its perfect complement), KH 120, KH 310 and KH 420; it also extends KH 810, KH 870 and KH 805 subwoofer systems.

Where should the subwoofer stand?

Against the front wall, ideally at 1/4 or 3/4 of the room width, not at the side or rear wall. Distance differences of more than 2 m to the main loudspeakers should be avoided or compensated.

Can analog monitors be room corrected?

Yes. Analog Neumann monitors connected to the subwoofer outputs can be aligned with the MA 1, using the subwoofer's DSP for amplitude and phase correction.

What gain do several subwoofers give?

Neumann states an acoustical gain of 6 dB with two, 9.5 dB with three and 12 dB with four subwoofers.

Where can I buy the NEUMANN KH 750 DSP in India?

The NEUMANN KH 750 DSP is available from Shivansh Electronics, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, with delivery across India.

Workflow 1: 2.1 stereo with bass management

Small rooms and compact monitors.

Connections

ConnectTo
Source L / RANALOG INPUT LEFT/A and RIGHT/B
ANALOG OUTPUT LEFT/A and RIGHT/BMain monitors

Setup

  1. Set CHANNEL B INPUT MODE to STEREO/RIGHT.
  2. Switch BASS MANAGEMENT to ACTIVE (LED green).
  3. Place the subwoofer against the front wall.
  4. Calibrate level and phase.

Tip: The main monitors play louder and with lower distortion when the bass goes to the subwoofer.

Workflow 2: Room correction for analog monitors

Owners of analog KH monitors.

Connections

ConnectTo
Subwoofer network socketNetwork switch and computer with MA 1
Subwoofer analog outputsAnalog KH monitors

Setup

  1. Connect the monitors to the subwoofer outputs.
  2. Set CONTROL MODE to NETWORK.
  3. Run the MA 1 automatic alignment.
  4. The subwoofer DSP corrects amplitude and phase of the whole system.

Tip: Non-DSP Neumann monitors gain DSP room correction through the subwoofer.

Workflow 3: LFE in a 5.1 system

Post production and film mixing.

Connections

ConnectTo
LFE channelSubwoofer input
Main channelsMonitors (direct or via the subwoofer)

Setup

  1. Select the LFE routing mode (up to 120 Hz or full range).
  2. Arrange the monitors to the surround standard.
  3. Set the LFE level (+10 dB in-band gain) with pink noise.
  4. Check the phase at the listening position.

Tip: Discrete multichannel systems use one subwoofer per stereo pair or for the LFE channel.

Workflow 4: Plane Wave Bass Array

Larger rooms with lateral room modes.

Connections

ConnectTo
Two to four subwoofersAlong the front wall

Setup

  1. Use two to four subwoofers (three to four in larger rooms).
  2. Space them within about 2 m (1.4 m in LFE mode 1).
  3. Feed them in parallel and set them up identically.
  4. Adjust the level for the acoustical gain (6 / 9.5 / 12 dB).

Tip: The array forms a plane wave that suppresses lateral room resonances.

Workflow 5: Calibrating with the backplate controls

Users without network control.

Connections

ConnectTo
Measurement system or Neumann test signalsListening position

Setup

  1. Adjust the main monitors first.
  2. Set the subwoofer gain and output level.
  3. Find the best phase with the two phase switches.
  4. Use the low-cut control to correct excess low frequency energy.

Tip: An acoustical measurement system gives the highest accuracy.

Workflow 6: Digital source

Studios with digital outputs.

Connections

ConnectTo
Source AES3 or S/PDIFDIGITAL AES3 INPUT (BNC)
AES3 OUTPUTFurther subwoofer or loudspeaker

Setup

  1. Connect the digital source to the BNC input (adapters for XLR or RCA).
  2. The digital input is selected automatically when a valid signal is present.
  3. Use the AES3 output as loop-through.
  4. Calibrate level and phase.

Tip: Digital connections avoid unnecessary signal conversions.
