Product overview
The SONODYNE SJX 1208 is a two way compact line array loudspeaker with dual 8 inch woofers, rated 600 W (AES) with a maximum SPL of 124 dB per box.
It has a clear, detailed response and can be flown, or ground stacked, for both installation and touring applications. The SJX Series is SONODYNE's range of passive line arrays with dual 8, 10 and 12 inch LF drivers: high power transducers chosen for a balanced tonality and exceptional dynamics, and a custom waveguide that gives wide horizontal dispersion while allowing large vertical coverage when several elements are aligned.
| Max SPL continuous (130 dB peak) | 124 dB |
| Continuous power (800 W program) | 600 W |
| HF directivity (H x V) | 100° x 15° |
| Sensitivity (1 W, 1 m) | 98 dB |
Key features

- Variable vertical splay angle in a compact form factor
- Efficient crossover network for a linear response at high output levels
- Flying and mounting solutions
Trapezoidal plywood enclosure
The trapezoidal enclosure is 18 mm plywood finished in durable black paint, with a powder coated 18 gauge perforated steel grille. All SJX models are built this way to be roadworthy. The SJX 1208 measures 630 x 280 x 370 mm (W x H x D) and weighs 26 kg.
Transducers and waveguide
The LF section is 2 x 8 inch with 2 inch VC; the HF section is 1 x 1 inch with 1.75 inch VC, on a computer designed waveguide that equalises the path length of the high frequencies. The SJX literature rates the drivers at LF 2 x 300 W AES; HF 50 W AES. The crossover point is 2 kHz and the efficient crossover network keeps the response linear at high output levels.
Performance
Frequency range is 55 Hz - 20 kHz (-10 dB), sensitivity 98 dB (1 W, 1 m) and maximum SPL 124 dB continuous and 130 dB peak. Power handling is 600 W continuous, 800 W program and 1600 W peak at 8 Ω nominal impedance. HF directivity is 100° x 15°, and the 100° horizontal coverage is maintained under all system configurations.
Flying and connections
Each cabinet has a standard bracket for flying with a vertical tilting arrangement; the side plates are marked 0° to 10° in 2° steps. Up to 8 cabinets can be flown using the truss head (SJX TH8, sold separately). The rear plate carries a twist-lock input and a twist-lock link.
