Product overview

The SONODYNE SLF 312 is a 12 inch powered subwoofer of the SLF Series: a front firing, vented subwoofer with a 12 inch high-excursion transducer, a class D amplifier and 2.1 channel bass management.

The SLF 312 is a no nonsense 12 inch powered subwoofer that can be used singly or in sets for large multichannel systems. It reaches a maximum SPL of 116 dB, with a frequency response from 30 Hz to the crossover frequency (-6 dB) and a usable response down to 25 Hz (-10 dB). Left, right and LFE signals enter through fully balanced XLR sockets; the left and right outputs feed the main monitors through a fixed 80 Hz high-pass, while the crossover (LPF) is adjustable from 50 Hz to 150 Hz.

Key features

  • 12 inch high-excursion transducer powered by a class D amplifier
  • 2.1 channel bass management: left, right and LFE inputs; left and right outputs high-passed at 80 Hz
  • Discrete phase control from 0° to 180°
  • Polarity switch and ground lift switch
  • External (foot switch controlled) bass management
  • Front firing, vented 18 mm MDF enclosure, black painted

12 inch transducer and class D amplifier

A single 12 inch high-excursion subwoofer transducer is driven by a class D amplifier (300 w amplifier power, 0.1 % THD at rated power), with a signal to noise ratio of 98 dB (A-weighted) and thermal, overload, short-circuit and DC-at-output protection. SONODYNE powered subwoofers are designed to deliver for monitoring needs, with high quality transducers and power amplifiers with adequate headroom to handle dynamics.

2.1 channel bass management

The SLF 312 sits between the source and the main monitors. It takes the left, right and LFE signals, reproduces the low frequencies below its crossover (50 Hz - 150 Hz) and passes the left and right signals on to the monitors through a fixed 80 Hz high-pass. Bass management can also be controlled externally with a foot switch.

Controls for the room

Gain (-60 dB to +6 dB), discrete phase control from 0° to 180° and a polarity switch help the SLF 312 blend with the main monitors at the listening position; a ground lift switch helps where a ground loop causes hum; a limiter can be switched on or off.

Front firing, vented enclosure

The vented enclosure is made of 18 mm MDF, finished in black paint, with black grill cloth stretched over a wooden frame. It measures 398 x 402 x 555 mm (W x H x D) and weighs 29 kg.
