Product overview

The TASCAM 202MK7 is a retro-modern, built-to-last double cassette deck with a USB output, ideal for professional studios, houses of worship, audio and music enthusiasts and digital archiving of tape collections.

Building on TASCAM's long history of professional cassette decks, the 202MK7 has two twin-head decks that each record and play, alone or together. Copy TAPE 1 to TAPE 2 at the touch of a button, record one source to both decks at once with parallel recording, or mix a microphone with tape playback for karaoke, voice-overs and announcements. The USB output bridges the analogue and digital worlds, so tapes can be archived to a computer, while SPECIAL playback mode, ±12% pitch control, playback noise reduction, timer operation and a wireless remote make it a dependable 3U rack unit.

Key features

  • Dual cassette deck for playing, dubbing or recording one or two cassettes
  • USB output (USB 2.0 Full Speed) for archiving cassettes to a computer or USB-capable digital recorder
  • Mic input with level control, mixed with TAPE 1 or a line source and recorded to tape
  • SPECIAL playback mode: cue the next song on one tape on headphones while the other plays
  • One-touch dubbing from TAPE 1 to TAPE 2
  • Parallel recording of one source to both decks at the same time
  • ±12% pitch control on TAPE 1
  • Return to zero (RTZ), repeat playback and REC MUTE
  • Noise reduction to reduce tape hiss during playback
  • Normal (Type I) and Chrome (Type II) recording and playback; Metal (Type IV) playback
  • Stereo RCA line input and output, headphone jack with its own level control
  • Wireless remote control (TASCAM RC-1331) and 3U rack-mount design

Dual cassette transport

Both twin-head decks support recording and playback and can be used separately or together. TAPE 1 has pitch control, and both decks have tape counters with return to zero. Each deck detects normal, chrome and metal tape separately, so different tape types can be used at the same time.

Recordable mic input

A front-panel mic input with its own level control can be mixed with TAPE 1 playback and recorded in real time to TAPE 2 for karaoke or voice-over work, or mixed with a line source. You can even connect a guitar, bass or keyboard and record it.

SPECIAL mode and parallel recording

In SPECIAL playback mode you can monitor one tape on headphones while the other plays to LINE OUT, making it easy to cue the next tape. Parallel recording records the same source to both decks at once, creating a master and a copy for distribution in one pass.

Digital archiving over USB

Connect the USB port to a computer and the 202MK7 appears as a standard USB audio device, with no special driver needed. Play your cassettes into recording software to archive a collection, or transfer new recordings made with the mic mixing function.

In the box

  • TASCAM 202MK7 double cassette deck
  • Remote control (TASCAM RC-1331)
  • AA batteries for the remote control (x 2)
  • Rack-mount screw kit
  • Owner's Manual (including warranty)

Cassettes, audio cables and the USB cable are not included.

TASCAM 202MK7: frequently asked questions

Can I convert cassettes to digital with the 202MK7?

Yes. DUB START copies TAPE 1 to TAPE 2 at normal speed, and parallel recording records a line source to both decks at the same time.

Which tape types does it support?

It plays Normal (Type I), Chrome (Type II) and Metal (Type IV) tapes and records on Normal and Chrome tapes.

Can I use a microphone with it?
