Product overview

The ART MX821S is an eight channel mic / line rackmount mixer with stereo outputs, offering the most mic preamps of any ART rack mixer in a single rack space.

Each channel has an XLR mic input with switchable phantom power, an unbalanced 1/4 inch line input and independent level and pan controls. The line input can also be converted into a direct output by adjusting internal jumpers. The master level knob controls the balanced 1/4 inch outputs, and a pre-fader output and aux input with stereo RCA connections allow several units to be chained, an additional stereo source to be added, or a mix to be sent to a recording device that is unaffected by master level changes in the room. Simple and streamlined, the MX821S can serve as a standalone solution or add connectivity to an existing system, on stage, in the studio or in permanent installations such as conference rooms, boardrooms, churches, restaurants and clubs.

Power: mains input 95-125 V AC only (official ART specification): use a suitable step-down transformer on 230 V Indian mains.

Key features

  • Eight input channels with individual level and pan controls
  • Pan controls place each mono input anywhere in the stereo image
  • Balanced mic XLR or unbalanced 1/4 inch TS input on each channel
  • +48 V low-noise phantom power, switchable for each microphone input
  • Balanced left and right 1/4 inch TRS main outputs with master level control
  • Prefade Output and Aux Bus Input jacks to chain units for extra inputs
  • Line inputs convertible to direct line outputs with internal jumpers
  • Rugged 1U rack-mount steel chassis with built-in power supply

Eight mic / line channels

Each of the eight female XLR inputs accepts a balanced microphone signal and adds 26 dB of gain for low output microphones; rear DIP switches apply +48 V phantom power to each mic input individually, limited to 7 mA per leg. Each 1/4 inch jack accepts an unbalanced line level signal. Both inputs of a channel feed a mono signal that the front Pan control places anywhere between left and right, and a red Clip LED shows peaks.

Outputs and chaining

The Master Level control sets the balanced 1/4 inch TRS main outputs. The stereo RCA Prefade Out is not affected by the master level, so it can feed a recorder or the next unit in a chain, and the stereo RCA Aux Bus In accepts another MX821S or an additional stereo source. Internal jumpers can turn the line input of any channel into a direct line output for that channel, while its mic signal stays in the main mix.

ART MX821S: frequently asked questions

How many microphones can it take?

Eight, one balanced XLR input per channel, each with switchable +48 V phantom power.

Can I chain several units?

Yes. The Prefade Output and Aux Bus Input RCA jacks chain units to provide extra inputs.

Can I get individual channel outputs?

Each line input jack can be converted to a direct line output with internal jumpers, as described in ART's manual.

What mains voltage does it need?

ART's official specification is 95-125 V AC, 50-60 Hz, under 15 W. On 230 V Indian mains use a suitable step-down transformer.

Where can I buy the ART MX821S in India?
