Product overview
The FONESTAR AIP-SPL is the sound pressure sensor of the FONESTAR AIP audio over IP system: it detects ambient noise and raises the volume of the emitted signal above that noise, zone by zone.
The AIP-SPL collects environmental sound pressure levels to configure the volume of each zone automatically, with C-weighting in accordance with the IEC 61672 standard. It mounts flush in the ceiling, connects to the local area network with one RJ-45 cable and is powered by PoE or by a local 12 V DC supply. Configuration is done from the PC with the AIP-GO software, which detects AIP devices automatically, and software updates are loaded through a USB port.

Key features
- Sound pressure sensor for the FONESTAR AIP system
- Automatic zone volume configuration from the measured ambient level
- C-weighting according to the IEC 61672 standard
- PC configuration with automatic device detection (AIP-GO)

- Ceiling flush mounting with an anchorage installation system
Volume that follows the noise
In busy moments the ambient noise of a shop, canteen or factory floor rises and announcements get lost. The AIP-SPL measures the sound pressure in its zone and the AIP system adjusts the volume of that zone automatically, so messages and music stay above the noise, and comfortable when the space is quiet.
One cable to the network
A single RJ-45 Ethernet connection carries the data and, with a PoE switch, the power. Where there is no PoE, the euroblock input accepts 12 V DC at 150 mA, for example from the optional AD-1510E power adapter.
Part of a scalable system
AIP is a 100% scalable solution, with no limit to the number of AIP devices and channels, an auto-discovery service when devices are connected to the network and intuitive configuration and control software. The AIP-SPL works alongside the AIP-GATE channel programmer, AIP-STREAMER transmitter, AIP-PLAYER player and AIP-1020 microphone.

FONESTAR AIP-SPL: frequently asked questions
What does the AIP-SPL do?
It measures the ambient sound pressure in a zone and lets the AIP system set the volume of that zone automatically above the noise.
How is it powered?
By PoE through the RJ-45 network cable, or locally with 12 V DC, 150 mA on its euroblock input.
How is it installed?
Flush in the ceiling: it measures 202 mm in diameter and 77 mm deep and needs a 163.5 mm hole; an anchorage installation system holds it in place.
How is it configured and updated?
From the PC with the AIP-GO software, which detects it automatically on the network; firmware can be updated from AIP-GO or locally with a USB storage device.
Where can I buy the FONESTAR AIP-SPL in India?
The FONESTAR AIP-SPL is available from Shivansh Electronics, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, with delivery across India.
Workflow 1: Supermarket announcements
Sales floors where noise changes through the day.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| AIP‑SPL | PoE switch |
| AIP‑PLAYER of the zone | Same LAN |
Setup
- Install the sensor in the ceiling of the zone, away from loudspeakers.
- Connect it to a PoE switch port.
- Detect it in AIP-GO and assign it to the zone.
- Check that announcement levels follow the ambient noise.
Tip: One sensor per zone lets every zone react to its own noise.
Workflow 2: School canteen
Noisy dining halls with bells and messages.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| AIP‑SPL | Network switch with PoE |
Setup
- Mount the sensor in the canteen ceiling.
- Assign it to the canteen zone in AIP-GO.
- Play a test message at quiet and busy times.
- Fine-tune the zone settings in the software.
Tip: Messages stay intelligible when the hall is full.
Workflow 3: Factory floor
Production areas with machine noise.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| AIP‑SPL | Switch port |
| Local supply | 12 V DC euroblock, if no PoE |
Setup
- Install the sensor in the production zone.
- Power it by PoE or by a 12 V DC adapter.
- Assign the zone in AIP-GO.
- Test paging with the machines running.
Tip: The optional AD-1510E adapter powers the sensor where the switch has no PoE.
Workflow 4: Hotel restaurant
Background music that adapts to the number of guests.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| AIP‑SPL | PoE switch |
Setup
- Place the sensor in the restaurant ceiling.
- Assign it to the restaurant zone.
- Set the music channel for the zone in AIP-GO.
- Let the zone volume follow the ambient level.
Tip: The flush white grille blends in with ceiling loudspeakers.
Workflow 5: Shopping centre corridors
Large common areas with changing crowds.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| AIP‑SPL units | Network switches |
Setup
- Install one sensor in each corridor zone.
- Check multicast and IGMP are not filtered between VLANs.
- Assign each sensor to its zone in AIP-GO.
- Verify announcements in every zone.
Tip: AIP has no limit to the number of devices, so zones can be added later.
Workflow 6: Office building
Open-plan floors and meeting areas.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| AIP‑SPL | PoE switch of the floor |
Setup
- Mount the sensor in the open-plan area.
- Let DHCP assign its IP address.
- Detect it in AIP-GO and assign the zone.
- Update its firmware from AIP-GO.
Tip: Keep the firmware of all AIP devices up to date from AIP-GO.
