Product overview

The GENELEC 4020C is a compact two-way active installation speaker: when space is at a premium it is your compact, faithful friend, squeezing huge performance into a small package for challenging commercial installations.

With beautiful aesthetics and 120 RAL colour finishes, the 4020C delivers GENELEC's trademark precision and clarity, with controlled directivity and simple rear panel room compensation switches for challenging acoustic environments. The result is clean, intelligible, non-fatiguing audio whatever the playback level, plus round-the-clock reliability as standard. Amplifiers, crossover and protection circuitry are inside the speaker, so no racks of external amplifiers are needed.

Huge performance, small package

At 226 x 151 x 142 mm and 3.1 kg, the 4020C reaches 100 dB SPL with a response down to 56 Hz. It is built for fixed indoor installations in corporate AV, education, hospitality, public places and music venues, and runs reliably around the clock.

Minimum Diffraction Enclosure and DCW waveguide

The die-cast aluminium Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE) has rounded edges and gently curved surfaces that reduce edge diffraction; the Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW) shapes the tweeter's dispersion. Together they give a flat response on and off axis, fewer early reflections and an excellent frequency balance in difficult acoustic environments.

Euroblock input with daisy-chaining

Audio enters through a balanced 10 kOhm Euroblock connector. Wire the signal cable to the supplied 3-pole plug; to feed several speakers from one source, connect a second cable to the same plug and route it to the next 4020C. The LEVEL control (-40 dB range) matches the input to the source: -6 dBu gives 100 dB SPL at 1 m with the control at maximum.

Room response controls

Treble Tilt boosts the treble above 4 kHz by +2 dB to compensate for long listening distance, off-axis listening or a speaker behind a screen or decorative cloth. Bass Roll-Off adds -4 dB at 65 Hz for heavy bass near room boundaries, and Bass Tilt gives -2, -4 or -6 dB below 2 kHz. The factory setting is all OFF for a flat anechoic response.

Versatile mounting

A 3/8 in UNC thread in the base fits a standard microphone stand, and two M6x10 mm threaded holes on the rear take brackets or the supplied keyhole wall mount adapter. A simple bracket and mounting screw set come in the box, and GENELEC offers table and floor stands, ceiling, truss and wall mounts for the 4020C.

In the box

  • 1 x GENELEC 4020C installation speaker
  • 1 x 3-position terminal block
  • 1 x mains cable (1.8 m)
  • 1 x simple bracket
  • 1 x mounting screw set
  • 1 x operating manual

GENELEC 4020C: frequently asked questions

Does the 4020C need a separate amplifier?

No. Two 50 W Class D amplifiers are built in. Connect a line-level source to the balanced Euroblock input; never connect it to the speaker outputs of an amplifier or receiver.

Can several speakers share one signal?

Yes. Connect a second signal cable to the 3-pole plug and route it to the next speaker (daisy-chaining).

Which colours are available?

Black and White as standard; RAW aluminium and any of 120 RAL colours can be ordered as custom finishes.

How much space does it need around it?

In a cabinet or wall structure keep at least 3 cm free behind, above and at both sides, open to the room, with the ambient temperature below 35 °C.

Where can I buy the GENELEC 4020C in India?

The GENELEC 4020C is available from Shivansh Electronics, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, with delivery across India.

Workflow 1: Office or reception area

Background music and announcements in a compact commercial space.

Connections

ConnectTo

Setup

  1. Mount the speakers with the acoustic axes aimed at the centre of the listening area.
  2. Wire the balanced cables to the 3-pole plugs and push them in.
  3. Set all tone switches OFF, then choose settings for the mounting position.
  4. Connect the earthed mains cables, switch on and set the LEVEL controls.

Tip: Vertical placement is preferred: it minimises cancellation around the crossover frequency.

Workflow 2: Daisy-chained zone

Several speakers in one zone fed from a single line output.

Connections

ConnectTo
Zone outputFirst speaker's 3‑pole plug
Second cable on the same plugNext speaker's input

Setup

  1. Run a balanced cable from the zone output to the first speaker.
  2. Connect a second cable to the same plug and route it to the next speaker.
  3. Repeat for each speaker in the zone.
  4. Match the levels with each speaker's LEVEL control.

Tip: Daisy-chaining saves cable runs back to the rack in long rooms and corridors.

Workflow 3: Restaurant or bar

Clean, non-fatiguing music at any playback level.

Connections

ConnectTo
Music source or zone mixerEuroblock inputs
Ceiling mountsRear M6 threads

Setup

  1. Choose black, white or a custom RAL colour to blend with the interior.
