Product overview
The GENELEC 4435A brings Smart IP to the ceiling: an in-ceiling loudspeaker of the highest quality with the ease of installation, system scalability and simple operation of single-cable networked technology.
Designed for discreet installation, the durable two-way 4435A takes PoE+ power, AES67 / Dante audio and management on one CAT cable, stores power to deliver 104 dB of short-term SPL and also has a balanced analogue input. It fastens with a simple latch system and hides behind a low-profile magnetically attached grille: round or square, black or white. Designed and manufactured sustainably in Finland.

Single-cable Smart IP connectivity
One standard CAT cable carries PoE+ power, uncompressed low-latency audio and management. Each 4435A can be used alone or freely networked with the other Smart IP models, synchronised to sub-microsecond level; stereo can be sent on the network and each loudspeaker set to L, R or L+R.
Easy, tidy installation
Trace the supplied cut-out template, connect the cables and lift the enclosure into the hole: three latches rotate outwards and clamp the ceiling board. The enclosure needs 162 mm of free depth and about 20 mm of smooth ceiling around the hole. A tab takes a secondary safety wire, and GENELEC offers pre-construction brackets (272-0039) for new buildings.
Grilles and finishes
The magnetically attached grille comes in the shape and colour ordered: round or square, black or white (4435AMR, 4435AWR, 4435AMS, 4435AWS). The metal mesh grille can be spray painted separately to match the interior.
Smart IP Manager, API and Controller app
Smart IP Manager gives installers device discovery, zones, profiles, delay, sensitivity and 20 filters per loudspeaker. A public API with ready-made drivers connects automation systems, and the free Smart IP Controller app gives end users volume, mute and power per zone.
In the box
- 1 x GENELEC 4435A in-ceiling loudspeaker with latch system and safety wire attachment point
- 1 x cut-out template
- 1 x magnetically attached grille in the selected shape and colour
- 1 x Euroblock connector for the analogue input
- 1 x operating manual
GENELEC 4435A: frequently asked questions
How is the 4435A powered?
Over its CAT cable from an IP switch with PoE+ outputs (IEEE 802.3at), or from a PoE+ power injector with a standard switch. It also works with PoE (IEEE 802.3af); GENELEC recommends PoE+ for the full output.
How do I set up and control a 4435A system?
Installers use GENELEC's free Smart IP Manager software for device discovery, zones, levels, delay and room equalisation. Day-to-day control is through the public API from a house automation system, or the free Smart IP Controller app on a smartphone or tablet.
Which grille comes with the 4435A?
The grille ordered: round or square, in black or white. Grilles are also available separately and can be spray painted to match the ceiling.
Is a safety wire included?
No. The enclosure has a safety wire tab; GENELEC recommends using a secondary safety wire.
Where can I buy the GENELEC 4435A in India?
The GENELEC 4435A is available from Shivansh Electronics, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, with delivery across India.
Workflow 1: Single-cable networked installation
Install 4435A units where only a CAT cable can be run.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| PoE+ IP switch port | RJ45 Ethernet port of each 4435A (CAT 5 or better, up to 100 m) |
| Audio source on the network | AES67 or Dante stream |
| Installer computer | Same network, running Smart IP Manager |
Setup
- Connect each 4435A to its own PoE+ switch port (star topology, no daisy-chaining of network ports).
- Power up the loudspeaker; PoE+ power is negotiated automatically.
- Route the stream channels to the units in the network audio routing software.
- Discover the units in Smart IP Manager and assign them to zones.
Tip: Use gigabit managed switches with QoS, and budget 30 W per PoE+ port within the switch's total PoE capacity.
Workflow 2: Long cable runs and standard switches
Power loudspeakers through PoE+ injectors where the switch has no PoE.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| Standard IP switch | Data input of a PoE+ power injector |
| PoE+ power injector | 4435A Ethernet port |
Setup
- Place one PoE+ injector per unit, close to the loudspeaker for long runs.
- Connect the switch to the injector and the injector to the unit.
- Check that each injector supplies full PoE+ power.
- Configure streams and zones as usual.
Tip: Cable loss is about 25 mW per metre; injectors near the loudspeakers keep more power available for audio peaks.
Workflow 3: Zones and profiles in Smart IP Manager
Organise many loudspeakers into zones that work as one system.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| Smart IP Manager | All Smart IP units on the network |
Setup
- Create zones and drag the units into them.
- Set mute and zone level with the - and + buttons.
- Store up to five profiles per zone with acoustic settings, input selection, level and delay.
- Recall a profile to change the whole zone at once.
Tip: Settings are stored inside each unit for instant recall, even after a power cut.
Workflow 4: Room equalisation and alignment
Compensate room acoustics and align loudspeakers.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| Smart IP Manager, Acoustics tab | Selected unit or group |
| Measurement microphone and tool | Listening area |
Setup
- Start from the factory setting (flat anechoic response).
- Set delay (0-98 ms) and sensitivity (-60 to 0 dB) to align the units.
- Use the 20 filters (notch, shelves, bass roll-off, bass tilt, treble tilt) against room colouration.
- Confirm by careful listening with known recordings.
Tip: Positive filter gain is possible: use it with care to keep headroom.
Workflow 5: Control by automation system or app
Give end users simple day-to-day control.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| House automation or control system | Public Smart IP API over the network |
| Smartphone or tablet | Smart IP Controller app over WiFi |
Setup
- Integrate the units with the public API and GENELEC's ready-made drivers.
- Or install the free Smart IP Controller app for smaller installations.
- Give users volume, mute and power on/off per zone.
- Recall stored settings for different uses of the space.
Tip: ISS can power the units down when idle and wake them on an API command or an audio stream.
Workflow 6: Ceiling installation
Fit 4435A loudspeakers into an existing or new ceiling.
Connections
| Connect | To |
|---|---|
| Cut‑out template | Ceiling board |
| CAT cable and analogue cable | Connector panel with strain reliefs |
| Safety wire | Safety wire tab |
Setup
- Plan the cable route; in new buildings mark positions with 272-0039 pre-construction brackets.
- Trace the template and cut the hole (at least 162 mm free depth).
- Loosen the latch screws, connect the cables and safety wire, lift the unit in and tighten the latches.
- Fit the magnetic grille; set zones and levels in Smart IP Manager.
Tip: Leave about 20 mm of smooth ceiling around the hole for the flange.
