Product overview

The SONODYNE SRP 800 is a high power near field active reference monitor with an 8 inch Kevlar woofer and a 26 mm silk dome tweeter in a custom waveguide, housed in a pressure die-cast aluminium enclosure.

The largest and most powerful model of the SONODYNE SRP Series, the SRP 800 is excellent for loud monitoring without any audible loss in detail. A DSP-based bi-amplifier delivers 150 W to the woofer and 100 W to the tweeter before clipping, for a maximum SPL of 112 dB and a frequency response of 42 Hz - 22 kHz (±2 dB). Calibrated high and low shelving EQs in 0.75 dB steps and a 63 Hz bass roll-off at the rear help match the monitor to the room, and the fully balanced XLR input comes with a link socket.

Key features

  • Pressure die-cast aluminium enclosure, vented through a rear-firing aerodynamic port
  • 8 inch Kevlar cone woofer, magnetically shielded, in a die-cast chassis
  • 26 mm silk dome tweeter, magnetically shielded, in a custom waveguide
  • Bi-amplifier: LF 150 W, HF 100 W before clipping; THD below 0.04 % at rated power
  • Internal DSP with high quality ADC and DAC for the 1.8 kHz crossover and the room EQs
  • High and low shelving EQ in 0.75 dB steps and a 63 Hz bass roll-off
  • Fully balanced XLR input with link socket; gain control -70 dB to +10 dB with detented 0 dB centre
  • Protection against over current, overheat, RFI and switch on/off transients

Rigid aluminium die-cast enclosure

The enclosure is pressure die-cast aluminium that maximises rigidity and lends the SRP its unique form. SONODYNE explains that this is significantly more rigid than conventional MDF cabinets: it reduces cabinet resonance and colouration for tighter bass, greater clarity and improved overall accuracy, while the non-parallel edges minimise standing wave build-up.

Kevlar woofer and custom waveguide

The 8 inch Kevlar woofer produces deep bass and exceptional transient response. The silk dome tweeter is nested in a custom waveguide to produce on and off axis linearity and a wide, detailed soundstage, creating a wider listening sweet spot with excellent stereo imaging and consistent tonal balance.

Bi-amplifier and internal DSP balance

Each driver has its own dedicated amplifier, ensuring precise crossover performance, improved dynamics and lower distortion. DSP-based internal processing with high quality ADC and DAC is employed for the crossover and also provides the 0.75 dB step calibrated HF and LF room compensation EQs at the rear: high shelving 4 kHz - 20 kHz and low shelving 50 Hz - 250 Hz, each -3 dB to +3 dB.

Connections and mounting

The SRP 800 accepts balanced signals through its XLR input and passes them on through the link socket; +7 dBu at the input gives 90 dB SPL at 1 m. Four M6 inserts on the rear and four on the bottom, and the SRP WB3 wall mount bracket, give flexible mounting options.

SONODYNE SRP 800: frequently asked questions

Is the SRP 800 active or passive?

Active. All SRP monitors have built-in bi-amplification: the SRP 800 drives its woofer with 150 W and its tweeter with 100 W (before clipping).

Do I need a separate amplifier?

No. Connect your audio interface, mixer or monitor controller to the balanced XLR input; the link socket passes the signal on.

Can I adjust the SRP 800 to my room?

Yes. The rear panel has high and low shelving EQs in 0.75 dB steps (4 kHz - 20 kHz and 50 Hz - 250 Hz, -3 dB to +3 dB) and a 63 Hz bass roll-off.

Who is the SRP 800 designed for?

SONODYNE designs the SRP range for music producers, recording and mastering engineers, broadcast professionals, content creators, home studios and audio training centres; the larger models suit studios that need higher SPL and extended low-frequency performance.

Where can I buy the SONODYNE SRP 800 in India?

The SONODYNE SRP 800 is available from Shivansh Electronics, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, with delivery across India.

Workflow 1: Professional recording studio control room

Engineers who track and mix at high monitoring levels.

Connections

ConnectTo
Audio interface or console monitor outputs (balanced)XLR INPUT of each SRP 800

Setup

  1. Place a pair of SRP 800 monitors in the control room.
  2. Connect each monitor's XLR input to a balanced monitor output.
  3. Set the gain control; 0 dB is at the detented centre.
  4. Use the rear high and low shelving EQs to suit the room.

Tip: The 112 dB maximum SPL leaves headroom for loud monitoring without audible loss in detail.

Workflow 2: Mastering room

Mastering engineers who need a wide, detailed soundstage.

Connections

ConnectTo
Monitor controller outputs (balanced)XLR INPUT

Setup

  1. Connect the monitor controller to both monitors over balanced XLR.
  2. Set the gain controls to the same position on both monitors.
  3. Adjust the shelving EQs in 0.75 dB steps for the room.

Tip: The custom waveguide gives on and off axis linearity over a wide sweet spot.

Workflow 3: Broadcast production

Broadcast professionals monitoring programme audio.

Connections

ConnectTo
Broadcast console monitor output (balanced)XLR INPUT

Setup

  1. Connect the console's balanced monitor output to the XLR inputs.
  2. Set the level with the front gain control.
  3. Use the bass roll-off at 63 Hz where needed.

Tip: Fully balanced inputs with a CMRR above 65 dB.

Workflow 4: Music production studio

Music producers working on full-range mixes.

Connections

ConnectTo
Audio interface outputs (balanced)XLR INPUT

Setup

  1. Connect the audio interface's balanced outputs to the monitors.
  2. Set the front gain controls.
  3. Tune the low shelving EQ (50 Hz - 250 Hz) to the room.

Tip: The 8 inch Kevlar woofer extends down to 42 Hz (±2 dB).

Workflow 5: Wall-mounted monitoring

Rooms where the monitors are mounted on the wall.

Connections

ConnectTo
SRP WB3 wall mount bracketM6 inserts on the rear

Setup

  1. Fit the SRP WB3 bracket to the M6 inserts.
